MSNBC Suspends Keith Olbermann

You may have heard that MSNBC has suspended Keith Olbermann without pay, indefinitely. If you haven’t heard about it, you can read about it in the New York Times, here. Those of you who are conservatives will no doubt rejoice; the rest of you will be saddened.
I sent the following comment to MSNBC:
You made a poor decision when you suspended Keith Olbermann. He has never pretended to be objective, and therefore the contributions he made cannot endanger his status as an objective journalist.
I am a constant viewer of his, and I hope you will quickly reverse this decision—and revise your policy to specifically exempt commentators (like Mr. Olbermann) from the prohibition.
Mr. Olbermann is an effective voice for the liberals in this country, at a time when our very political system is in danger. I look forward to seeing him back on the air again very soon.
I hope you will join me by sending your comments to MSNBC. Their online comment form is located here.

It would be just fine with me if he NEVER returned to MSNBC as he is too biased and opinionated. He is very rude and smirky with most of his remarks about those who are NOT of his liking. In other words, if you are not a DEMOCRAT, he seems to think that you are one of the WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD.
I DON’T ENJOY MSN’S EVENING STAFF AT ALL.

Hi Verta…and thanks for the comment. You seem to feel about MSNBC the way I feel about Fox News.
I hope you’ll keep reading the blog!

The suspension of Olbermann is hilarious. It has a cannibalistic element to it that makes the hypocrisy shine. What about Chris Matthews? Did they just not catch him yet? Remember this gem by Matthews? “I have to tell you, you know, it’s part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama’s speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg.” Doesn’t MSNBC realize that while they don’t give monetary support to Democrats and Liberals they give them even more important and pervasive support with their obviously Left biased reporting? Oh yeah, and about the replacement… :NPR’s David Folkenflik reports that Hayes has given money to Democratic candidates before, but he’s not an NBC employee.” (http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/11/05/131100967/keith-olbermann-suspended-after-political-contributions) Very funny indeed. Luckily my remote isn’t broken and I can still not watch Olbermann anytime I want to.

Oh, yes, MSNBC understands that most of its news programming supports liberal policies and candidates. Fox does the same thing in support of conservative policies and candidates. In fact, unlike MSNBC, Newscorp (which owns Fox) does give monetary support to its friends on the Right.
NBC is perfectly correct in its policy that its anchors and reporters (who are supposedly objective) not contribute to political parties or candidates. But to apply that policy to commentators, who make no claim to being objective, is wrong.
You are well aware that the sheer volume of right-wing commentary on radio, TV, and the internet is overwhelming. Mr. Olbermann is an intelligent and entertaining voice for the liberal side of things—and his voice is sorely needed. I hope he’ll be back soon.

Just like FOX, MSNBC, I’m sure, understands the high value of their influence on their obviously gullible viewers. The Media, these days more than at any other time in history, is very guilty of tuning their content to suit their own agenda. But don’t be fooled that MSNBC doesn’t give money to their political “friends”. “as reported by media watchdog, Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR), it appears that MSNBC’s parent company, General Electric (GE) along with potential new owner Comcast, both violated the company’s “news policy and standards” by each donating millions of dollars in campaign contributions.” (http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-washington-dc/msnbc-s-owners-give-millions-political-contributions) I may agree with you that the volume of commentary that comes from the right side of the aisle is significantly greater on radio, but only because the ratings support those shows. Television clearly leans to the left, and the Internet has as much of every flavor you could possibly want. Overwhelming? No. Clearly it is not. Even NPR, who according to regulations must give equal time (to the right) skirts those regulations by trying to throw those on the right under the bus (see the link in my last comment).
